Why equipment efficiency matters

Many rebate and incentive programs require qualifying high-efficiency equipment. One of the most common eligibility requirements is ENERGY STAR^® certification. Equipment that carries the ENERGY STAR label has been independently tested and certified to meet the efficiency standards required by nearly every rebate program you will find in a search, federal, state, or utility.

In plain terms: if the system you install is ENERGY STAR certified, you are already on track to qualify for most incentives available in your area. ENERGY STAR 5.0

ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 for furnaces takes effect July 31, 2026, and raises the AFUE thresholds required for gas furnace certification, with different thresholds for northern and southern climate zones. The current Ducane furnace lineup is certified to these updated standards. Ask your dealer to confirm the AFUE rating for a furnace, or the SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings for cooling and heat pump systems, and ENERGY STAR status for any equipment you are considering, since these are the numbers most rebate programs check first.

Rebates and incentives for a new heating and cooling system come from a mix of state energy offices, local utility companies, and federal programs. What is available to you depends on where you live, your utility provider, the equipment you install, and current program funding. Programs change, and some pause once funding runs out.

• Verify current program status. Funding can pause or run out between the time you search and the time you install.
• Confirm equipment eligibility for the specific system you are considering, including ENERGY STAR certification and SEER2/HSPF2 ratings.
• Help you apply for programs that require pre-approval before installation begins. Failing to complete this step is the most common reason homeowners miss a rebate they qualify for.

A note on federal programs
